Abstract
Hair cuticles according to direct perm and emulsification perm were observed damage status through scanning electron microscope. In the cuticle observation, hair cuticles in the first and second perm treatment was relatively regular and glossy without abnormality, and the hair cuticle was precisely overlapped. However, as it moves from coloring hair to decoloring hair, the hair cuticle became loose slightly and swollen. In the first emulsification perm, the wave was formed similar to that of the first perm treatment. And in the second and third treatment. the edge of hair cuticle was slightly loose and swollen enough to be visible and the debris of cuticles was excoriated and came apart. There were more damages in emulsification perm that the direct perm and it appeared in the sequence of coloring hair and decoloring hair in turn. Therefore, from the above findings, it is observed that in the direct perm has appeared similarly, and the first emulsification perm also has same damage to that of direct perm, and the damage was high in the second and third emulsification perm. Further studies would be necessary to treat perm with an exclusive direct perm machine by changing the temperature condition to observe chemical reaction more precisely. It is expected that more professional and systematic research should be continued based on the findings of this study.
